WWVA Operating at 12.5kw

After last week’s storm that breezed through Ohio and West Virginia knocked down the three-tower array of Wheeling’s WWVA-AM (1170), the station is back on the air at a reduced power. According to the FCC Special Temporary Authority application, 40 to 50 feet of each tower remain standing and the damaged sections have been removed. A long wire has been attached to the eastern-most tower in the array with a 12,500 watt signal.
