WTAE adds 4 PM newscast
July 1, 2021WTAE-TV (4) will offer the addition of a 4:00 p.m. newscast beginning Tuesday, July 6. Anchoring will be Andrew Stocky, Kelly Sasso and meteorologist Jeff Verzyla.
WTAE President and General Manager Charles Wolfertz III said in a press release, “Viewers schedules have changed since the pandemic, we determined now is a perfect opportunity to provide those viewers with additional time options.”
With the change The Tamron Hall Show will move from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m.; Ellen, which is approaching the final season, will move from 4:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Dr. Oz will be pushed from 10:00 a.m. to 1:05 a.m.
Dr. Oz to 1:05 AM…..?
His show is much better than either of the other ones involved.
Punishment for being a regular with the Sean Hannity crowd during the virus shutdown maybe….?
Dr. Oz numbers have fallen through the floor since his “endorsement” of bogus Covid-19 cures. Were it not for Sinclair stations resigning with him this year the show would have been cancelled. WTAE will lose less money by hiding Dr. Oz in a non-revenue time slot and replacing him with a newscast where all of the revenues generated are local.
What about “The Real,” which usually airs at 1 AM.
With all due respect…..he is a doctor. You and I are not. We’re really not in a position to draw conclusions about his advice.
The Tamron Hall show is lousy. I can’t believe The Dr. Oz show was moved to 1:05am and the awful Tamron Hall show was put in it’s place at 10:00am. I liked watching The Dr. Oz show, then The View, then the 12:00 pm news on WTAE. We don’t need an extra hour of news from 4:00-5:00pm. I think 5:00- 6:30 pm is plenty enough news- plus the World News from 6:30- 7:00pm. The news is constantly repeating information as it is! Who was the genius that thought we need more repeated information?!? I was bummed when The Chew was cancelled awhile back. (It was on at 1:00pm on WTAE.) Now Dr. Oz. is on at 1:05am! This is becoming an unwatchable station during the daytime. And what happened to The Real that was in that time slot at 1:05am? That show is much better than Tamron Hall! Put Tamron Hall on at 1:05 am, put Dr. Oz back at 10:00am, and put The Real in Tamron Hall’s old time slot. I think I need to find new favorites on another station during the daytime as WTAE isn’t providing good daytime programming anymore. This also means no more WTAE news too.
First, let me say that ABC – the network with whom WTAE is affiliated – cancelled “The Chew” so you can’t lay this one on WTAE. But you also cannot necessarily say that someone at WTAE has it out for Dr. Oz either. My clear bet is the ratings for his program – locally – are not what they used to be at seeing that 10:00 a.m. does seem to be a prime daytime slot, they would prefer something that MIGHT be garnering attention. Granted Tamron Hall’s program is still pretty new, so it may still be too hard to determine if it will do well in any time slot.
As for the 4:00 p.m. news – well here’s a breaking story (not really). Ellen will have its final season this year and over on WPXI, Judge Judy will soon be taken off as she too has announced her last season which, I believe, ends this fall. WPXI likely has a 4:00 p.m. newscast in mind. So with KDKA already doing that, WTAE beat WPXI to the punch. Remember too, that what may work for you for TV news watching, may not work for someone else. So these could have very good results for any of the stations.
No-on endorsed Bogus cures for covid. Dr. Oz is a great human being.
Why do people repeat information without ever researching it for themselves.
Just because you see a tweet, or read a posting on social media, or even hear something on the current day news, doesn’t make it true. Everything has become too political.
