WQZS License Expires…Station Still On Air

September 2, 2022 Off By Ken Hawk

The license has expired for an embattled classic hits station in southern Somerset County, but that hasn’t affected its operations.

The license of WQZS 93.3FM expired last month, but the station still has yet to formally cease operations. Sources tell PBRTV.com that the station is still on the air.

Jane Hinckley Halprin, the administrative law judge who is overseeing the legal proceedings surrounding the fate of the station’s license, formally canceled owner Roger Wahl’s hearing to plead his case. The cancellation came after he failed to respond properly to interrogatories put forth to him surrounding his character issues following his guilty plea to sex-related crimes in 2020.

Wahl has been acting as his own legal counsel in this case. Neither of his previous attorneys of record could be reached for comment.

The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau is expected to take action on the matter at its next committee meeting on Thursday, September 29, 2022. Wahl could face fines for every day he’s on the air illegally.
