Working on an update…
September 10, 2024Just to let you know I am working (SLOWLY) on a website update. Rather than having a bajillion pages to update, I’m trying to combine all of the information about stations onto one page for AM, one for FM and one for TV. As you can see by this nearly completed prototype – Pittsburgh Area AM Radio Stations – You have your Descriptions and Callsign Histories all in one. Once all of the pages are set like that, I will update the histories and perhaps somehow include the individual listings for the towersite maps. I suspect the project will take us into 2025 based on my current schedule.
I am also certain that the core audience interests are changing as the future becomes the present. We can get media in so many different ways using many different devices nowadays. The majority of younger generations may eventually give a half-a-rip about the history of stations and how they worked, but the vast majority of 12-year-olds aren’t exposed to the radio that much and we know television isn’t “appointment viewing” for most people anymore. We take these old technologies for granted now. But someday they will have completely morphed into something else entirely. We don’t know the complete future yet, but if the histories of these stations remain alive, the memory of what “was once…” will remain for those who have interest.
Also, I plan to post a survey very soon about the demographics of readers to this particular part of the website. I have the feeling I know the “stats” of the bulk of the readers here, but I am pretty curious to see if my hypothesis is correct or if there is a “silent majority” I’m missing here.
Stay tuned for more ideas stemming forth for this main portion of PBRTV.com.
“Main portion?? You mean there’s more?
Yes… if you look at the bottom of this website in the “footer”, you will see links to the “Eric’s Avenger’s” page where I exclusively talk about my life with Parkinson’s Disease, as well as just a plain website for my radio show, “Smooth, Relaxing & Easy”.
I’ve also started a personal blog which I am debating on making public or saving for myself and a few of my closer friends. While I’ve kept at it weekly over the last month or so, I’ve discovered it’s becoming more of a “review” of the week leading up to each post which may be interesting to some, but it’s not necessarily the “hysterical look back on my life” that I was going for. Honestly I thought I saw humor in more things than I really do! So I’ll think about that as time goes on…
As always, thanks for reading PBRTV. Oh… and have you bought a hat or shirt yet? See link in the right sidebar….
Good luck with your updating project!
Thanks for keeping PBRTV going! When they pulled the plug on Michiguide it was a great loss to those of us who are interested in this kind of thing, so the resource is appreciated. I get what you’re saying about things rapidly changing for the future. Interestingly I have grandkids in the 5-to-12 age range who all seem to be strangely fascinated with my old school Sony Walkman. So there’s hope.
Hi Eric . . love the look of the new PBRTV listings. Things changed a bit from my 1977-1979 Pittsburgh days..and even more from my 1985-87 days. Appreciate your efforts – and know that you’ll proofread to cover some of the typos (misspelled words) that are in the prototype. BTW, I just bought a shirt
Thanks Dave. Yes… the typos (and in many cases much of the wording in general) will get an update.
