WMNY: “Technical Issues”
June 26, 2023After closing in on about a month of radio silence, WMNY is breaking theirs.
But very little is being said.
A response to a Facebook message from PBRTV.com to its Radio Dhoom USA page on June 21st said ‘some technical issues and working on it to bring it up.’
No reply was given when asked if there was an intended date to return to the air. According to the FCC’s website, no application for a stay-silent Special Temporary Authority (STA) was filed as of this date as per FCC requirements.
WMNY airs a South Asian entertainment format, the first of its kind in the Pittsburgh market, branded as “Radio Dhoom”. Its licensee, Radio 1150 Limited Liability Company, is headed by Gagan Deep, of Monroe, New Jersey.
Deep acquired the station – originally known as WKPA – from East Liberty-based Pentecostal Temple Development Corporation in 2018.
radio-locator.com says that the license expired on August 1, 2022. Any info on that?
Hmmm… now that’s interesting…
I checked the FCC website and they are renewed until 2030. Here is the link https://publicfiles.fcc.gov/am-profile/WMNY
Perhaps they just ran out of money or interest in the format. It is interesting to note that their business partner owns “Murray Hill Estates” a condo development surrounding the seven acres on which the towers sit. Maybe they might decide to just knock the towers down and build additional condos there. Sadly, probably more profitable than the station. If that would happen, 1150 is history. I was occasionally on the air there but mostly on sister WYDD in the 60’s. WKPA used to support several families with the commercials, but you might not be able to give it away today. Fun days! I’m 76 and time is passing. Bob Kristof

This says it was renwed.
WMNY is back on the air today, monday! I first heard them back on the weekend, sounded like it was at low power and low audio, but now it seems to be back to normal.
I’ve been checking it a lot now, they may have been on at other times since the storms in May.
