WLSW escapes part of major fine
January 9, 2014Tom Taylor’s NOW column reported this morning that the FCC has given Stan Wall’s WLSW-FM (103.9 Connellsville) a 50 percent break on the $15,000 fine it charged on the station in 2011. The fine was for failure to have quarterly issues/program reports for nearly 4 years in the public file when the Commission visited in 2010. A subsequent visit in 2011 showed more quarterly reports were missing. The easing of the fine was because of inability to pay, rather than the explanations of a damaged storage facility and possible employee theft. The FCC warns that it won’t be so generous if there are future transgressions.
A $7,500 fine might wipe out a year’s worth of billings for that station.
