WKGE off air
October 19, 2012Birach Broadcasting’s WKGE-AM (850 Johnstown) is silent. Radio-Info reports Ray Rosenblum, a Pittsburgh broker, says there is a $250,000 asking price for the station. WKGE has been owned by Birach (who also owns WWCS-AM (540 Canonsburg) since 2007. It has been a simulcast of Pennsylvania Radiowerks’ WWGE in Loretto.
The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat says that Birach purchased the station with the hopes of formatting it to appeal to the ethnic community in Johnstown. But the station known as “The Edge” has been struggling with a political talk/sports format. WKGE is 10,000 watts with nine towers.
Wow no wonder they’re off the air a NINE tower directional array – that got to be ‘spensive to keep up and as AM listenership continues to drop I can see why Birach pulled the power switch. NINE towers – one more than Double Double AM and I thought that was a huge array.
