WJAS serves up a new schedule
March 19, 2021With more of a local flair, the St. Barnabas Broadcasting-owned WJAS (1320/99.1) starts a new Monday-Friday schedule.
– Bloomdaddy remains in place 6:00 – 9:00 a.m.
– Wendy Bell will be on 9:00 a.m. – Noon 5 days a week
– Rose Somma-Tennent filling the void of the late Rush Limbaugh in Pittsburgh Noon – 3:00 p.m.
– Syndicated Sean Hannity remains in his 3:00 – 6:00 time slot
– Glenn Beck will air in a 9 hour delay from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
What did they do with Larry Elder? Time to say goodbye to Glen Beck. Keep Larry Elder 6PM to 9PM.
Elder does an excellent show.
My error. Larry Elder is on 1250 after Jay Sekulow from 7PM to 9PM. Guess 1320 is losing Dave Ramsey in favor of Glen Beck. It would be nice to have all three hours of Larry Elder.
I was wondering what a hospital would want with a radio station, I thought ‘just investment’ and oh, they’ll just keep it on satellite, and it will be on life support like AM 540 WWCS is. Well, it seems like there’s new life at the station, they must have a program director with a pulse, and they’re actually scheduling local talk hosts! The news should get on this, there’s probably a story here, that WJAS won’t be another casualty of the impersonal service from satellite radio.
Nothing wrong with national hosts, they’re top quality broadcasters and mostly live.
Larry Elder, The Great Elderski, The Sage of South Central, he is now on AM 1250 The Answer, 7-9 pm weekdays. He reminds me of Rush with his humor and the way he does sound bites, and since he runs them himself, he can interject between words. It’s a good skill to use right now; with all the delays because of remote studios, hosts with a separate producer often have timing errors with their cuts.
Larry keeps it tight, and it’s music to the ears, even though it’s talk.

If I’m not mistaken I think iHeartRadio operates WJAS under an LMA since they are at their legal ownership limit in Pittsburgh. This dates back to when WPGB dropped talk and went to North Shore parking lot trash….I mean, country music. I look for iHeart to buy them outright if radio ownership restrictions are loosened–which considering the competition from podcasts, SiriusXM, and streaming music services, might be a legit possibility.
Incorrect. While WJAS did pick up thr old 104.7 talk format and is in the same building, and airs the iHeart public affairs, its day to day operations and sales are completely independent. We also understand that Wendy is now in a studio on the St. Barnabas campus in Gibsonia.
BTW Glad Wendy Bell has all three hours. She is doing a great job without the management scrutiny she no doubt had to endure at KDKA and it will be great to hear Rose back on the air. God save America. We need all the help these two women can give us.
Speaking of WWCS it would seem they’ve gone back to Fox Sports Radio after ditching that other network that changed names every six months around a week ago.
WJAS’ website has a “to be announced” banner on the schedule after Beck.
Too many women. I like Wendy Bell, but 3 hours is too much. I tune into 1170 AM for Glenn Beck who isn’t a favorite, but less girly -girly. Then even worse is Rose Tennent to take the place of the great Rush. I am hoping this isn’t permanent. I am a women who find women for the most part too frivolous on a talk show. Please find a more appealing man to fill those spots. Long time listener.
Rush’s EIB Network is still heard on AM 1170 out of Wheeling WV in the usual time slot. 1170 can fade under wires and in downtown, but if your radio is decent, you should be able to listen okay.
Since most AM talk hosts are guys, I’m glad to hear the voices of gals on the air myself. What about a female and male team, well, like Quinn and Rose. Costs are involved, but if you could get the right team, it could really blow up.

Dan Bongino is taking Rush’s 12 to 3….i like Rose, but I sure would to have listened to Dan!! And…
unable to pick up WJAS on my car radio….they need stronger signal !!
You can’t pick up a 7000 watt AM signal in your car?
Maybe Sandy is trying to listen to the FM translator? That can be tough depending on where you live. I get 99.1 pretty well in Greentree, but the AM is still a better signal here.
This week, WJAS AM has improved their sound, it’s smoother and not driven as hard as it has been for at least the past few years.
I’d be surprised if the “owner” has anything to do with this. Very likely a side deal for iHeart to get around ownership limits for the market. They originate the Bloomdaddy show from Wheeling and moved the format from 104.7 to put country there.
Again, no. The owner has everything to do with this. Iorio and St. Barnabas have shared programming and have been spaced close to the iHeart stations. But sales and day to day operations are completely independent.
My Prediction is WJAS jumps to the head of the pack in the next ratings period where both new shows are counted. Since the days of the Honzman and Pintek, there has been a void for good local conservative talk…and both these women are a plus to local radio!
Don’t put too much into the ratings. They are a joke. If a station doesn’t subscribe they get very little attention.
It depends on what type of car you own. AM radios are a low-quality afterthought on many models these days. The one in my Korean-made vehicle barely functions. The performance of the one in the rental I had recently blew it away.
I’ve heard of Subaru car radios having good reception on AM more recently. From a technical standpoint I believe the radios are actually pretty good, with the possibility of the best reception we’ve ever had in a car radio due to digital signal processing. It’s just that car radio manufacturers over-use that processing power to try to eliminate all noise, and you end up with audio so restricted that sounds like a telephone. That further leads people to think the sound quality of AM radio is inherently poor.
Another problem is the small fin style antennas cars use now, the antenna is so tiny for radio signals, especially on AM.
