WIXZ Steubenville restored to full power
November 11, 2024WIXZ (950 Steubenville) was recently restored to full power (1kW dir. day/ 35W dir. night) reports owner Bob Scharnhorst. The station suffered a lightning strike in early 2023 damaging the transmitter and a co-ax line to one of the four towers in the directional array. The repairs took well over a year to complete and the station is once again heard from East Liverpool, Ohio to Wheeling, West Virginia.
I hear them better here too, west of the city, the signal is stronger, good enough to listen to on my Kiwi radio.
Stations like this are great, an owner-operator who wants to recreate the format Pittsburgh’s WIXZ used to have in the 1970s and play great oldies. Bob goes on in mornings, weekends have Cobweb Corner oldies, and sundays are church, just like stations used to do.
They’ve also improved their audio too, with modern sound processing.
