WDVE’s Maloy dies
August 28, 2019Former WDVE (102.5) overnight jock Jack Maloy passed away on Wednesday, the station reported. No word as to what caused his death but he is being remembered fondly. Maloy spent 36 years with the station before retiring in 2013.
Overnights can be lonely places to be, at a radio station. I used to hear the weird and wonderful played overnight on some of the stations, and DVE would have art rock and longer pieces being played. I recall a segment they did called ‘For Headphones Only’ that featured psychedelic head music. I’m sure Jack must have been playing them, but since I was supposed to be sleeping, I didn’t really pay attention to who was at the mic.
Still, I think it’s great when anyone stays in broadcasting for that long.
