WCNS, WXJX sold again
March 27, 2023WCNS (1480; 107.5 W298DH Latrobe) and WXJX (910; 98.7 W254CR Apollo) have been sold to Disruptor Radio, LLC. That puts $435,000 in the pockets of Maryland Media One and Steve Clendenin who developed the Gold format used on the stations as well as Maryland and South/North Carolina.
Disrupter Radio is owned by John Fredericks who owns or is in the midst of purchasing stations in Atlanta, Norfolk, Philadelphia, and Richmond. Most of his outlets tout a conservative talk format.
This is sad – these guys had a pretty good playlist of tunes! Seems they had been off the air for a few weeks (at least at 910AM) before the sale occurred, with nothing more than a carrier on the air. I wonder why they decided to sell the stations. Quite probably that they just couldn’t get the ad revenue to where it needed to be.
Sad to see more talk on the AM band replacing music…
