Vintage Video
September 15, 2020Mark Roberts, formerly of WTAE Radio, recently had some 16mm tape digitized and shared this gem with us today.
Early 1970s. WTAE Radio was demolishing its original free-standing towers from the 1930s. John Garry and I were “helping”. I’ve been saving the original 16mm film, and just had it digitized. Charlie McGrath was the shooter, if memory serves.
That’s a BEAUTY!! Never saw the old towers, worked in the shadow of the old WJAS towers (Greentree) and had a job interview at the site of the former KHJ towers in L.A. – the KHJ transmitter building was still standing at the time (Venice and Fairfax) – but had to be reminded of what was once there. Seeing the WTAE towers go boom is a classic exercise!
Now we know who took down the WEDO tower years ago. 😉
Ha!
