Vindicator to cease operation
June 28, 2019WFMJ-TV reports that its sister operation, the Youngstown Vindicator, will cease operation in August. The announcement come 3 days after the paper’s 150th anniversary. A letter will be published to readers in Saturday’s edition.
Closure of the newspaper will not affect TV operations. General Manager Mark Brown says there are no plans to sell WFMJ.
Man, so said to see newspapers ceasing operations. I love reading the paper at lunch or dinner, doesn’t really matter what paper, always something new to read about, do the Jumble, read all the sports stats, etc….
Sorry to hear about the Vindicator ceasing operation. WFMJ-TV and the Vindicator together made a great news reporting team. In Aug. 1971 when WPGH-TV went bankrupt, I was hired by WFMJ-TV as technical director of the 6 & 11 PM newscasts, leaving WFMJ-TV in Jan. 1974 to put WPGH-TV back on the air. Youngstown will be without a great newspaper.
