Updates: WGBN/WMNY; Daily News
December 16, 2015Thanks to alert reader Ken, we have an update on the WGBN/WMNY situation. When Ken drove by the New Kensington studios on Tuesday, he observed “NO PARKING” signs rather than the “no trespassing” signs reported to us the other day. A call to PTDC revealed that there were further problems getting the program feed to either of the stations and that all should be corrected by Thursday. The same problem affected phone service at the studios..
Speaking of stations in McKeesport.., The sale of WEDO (810) will be finalized in early January. Shortly thereafter it will move in with its new sisters WKHB (620 Irwin), WKFB (770 Jeannette) and WKVE (103.1 Mt. Pleasant).
Speaking of other Mon Valley Media… The Tribune-Review announced today that the McKeesport Daily News (since 1884) and The Valley Independent (since 1902) will cease publication on December 31 after not being able to secure a buyer for the papers. The story is here.
Spoke with some folks who worked in the newspaper business until recently. The “nice” folks at the Trib did a real ob on the local papers. They moved out equipment and centralized all the printing…then put the smaller papers “up for sale” with no equipment or distribution ability.
I’m frankly surprised as many were resold as there were.
How do they explain the disconnected telephone?
The service that provides their phone and STL links… I believe Comcast… was down. Why? Who knows.
