Update on Social Media issue; Why we are selling merch…
June 15, 2024Remember the other day when I went on a rant about having a post taken down because of some stupid reason that made no sense nor offered suggestions as to what to do about it? (How’s that for a run-on sentence?)
Yeah, well I think Meta is broken, people.
So, it’s been a week or so. Do you think I’ve heard from them yet about my “appeal”? If you said, “no”, you’re correct.
But since that time I’ve discovered I was not alone. Not only was the PBRTV page hit, my personal page was hit with the exact same excuse for a post from 18 months ago.
Then several folks in groups I follow on social media have reported the same thing happening. Posts like others they’ve made a thousand times getting goosed because “it looks like you tried to get likes, follows, shares or video views in a misleading way.”
My guess is faux-smarts (artificial intelligence) was probably working overtime at the office one day and it went on some sort of data drinking binge. Then it started issuing citations to people at random and left them under their FB dashboard windshields.
Incidentally the “See rule” option didn’t offer a whole lot of assistance either.
As you can probably tell, I’m not a fan of A-I.
Note how I typed A-I. There was a suggestion recently to type it that way or “Ai” so a man with the name of AL wouldn’t be accused of something he didn’t do.
What’s with the merch?
Well, I’ll tell ya…
Ummm…
You might have a hard time believing this is a reason. It’s actually more an “inspiration”.
I have come to the conclusion that the hair on top of my head is not coming back anytime soon. So that means I need to protect my head at certain times of the year. I have a collection of hats from when I was a kid from my neighbor of many years who was a big-wig for a trucking company. (Side note: I got a new hat every time the company went through a merger.) But these days I don’t look all that great in the trucker hat style. I prefer baseball caps as they are little bit more “flippy” and just look better on me. What’s more is I’m not wearing 35+ year old hats for companies that seemingly no longer exist… instead holding them in memory of my dear friend and long-time neighbor, John O’Connor. (Side note: He was completely without hair on his head and wore a hat almost always!)
So I figured, if I am going to have a hat with anything on it, it might as well be my website. So I went over to Bonfire.com and set it up. I thought it looked so nice that it was worth offering up to anyone who’d buy one. At just $23 it’s priced lower than the average $25-40 charge. And through the end of June, use the code “PBRTV10” and you get 10% off!
I also have a line of tops – shirts of various varieties – t-shirts, crew neck sweatshirts, hoodies, all there on Bonfire. (This line is too new to have a sale just yet!)
Realistically, do I care if you buy anything? Well… yes and no. I’m not out to make millions doing this… or even hundreds. Knowing many people are somewhat afraid to purchase things from some rando on the internet whom they sorta know, I understand the hesitation. So, with that, please know the meager proceeds that come from this will, in some shape or form, go back into this website 100%.
Trust me, it’s not about the money nor is this a fundraiser. It’s a FUNraiser and a way to further connect people with similar interests! Could you imagine finding someone else wearing the same logo on a hat or shirt somewhere and realize you have a connection to the 4-trillionth* most frequently visited website in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania?
*Ranking data far from accurate.
