Tyrone’s “Radio Rich” Saupp Dies

A longtime Blair County radio legend has passed away.
“Radio Rich” Saupp, was most recently the afternoon drive voice for Tyrone-based WTRN, owned by Claysburg-based Lightner Communications. Saupp first joined the station in 1972, when it was under the banner of Allegheny Mountain Network, founded by the late Cary Simpson.
Saupp was a native of Houtzdale, Clearfield County. He was a Port Matilda resident at the time of his death, which was reported by Lightner Communications on December 19th.
Saupp performed a variety of roles for WTRN during his storied tenure, including sales, production and news. His voice was often heard on the AMN’s other 11 radio stations at the company’s peak in the late 70’s.
Saupp, who was 78, is survived by his wife Lisa. No funeral arrangements were announced.

I had just found out today about the passing of Rich. I worked with rich at WGMR and WTRN back in the mid 90’s. He was a great man and a great dj. The radio world has lost one of the best. We had a lot of fun working together our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife Lisa
