Tidbits
February 1, 2024Now that we are into February, we regret to note our neglect in mentioning a switcheroo at WBGG (970) at the start of last month! The station is once again sporting the Fox Sports brand (all puns intended). The 5000 watt 4-tower-by-day; 8-tower-by-night station has been host to just about every sports format available since it changed from WWSW-AM in 2000. The station has its FM presence at 104.7 HD2.
News from the Windy City (Chicago) has it that former WTAE-TV morning meteorologist Demetrius Ivory has been promoted to Chief Meteorologist at WGN-TV. Ivory left Pittsburgh for the midday and early afternoon position at WGN in 2013. He takes over for the legendary Tom Skilling who retires this month after a 45 year career with the station. Ivory will take over the duties on February 29.
I didn’t even notice! I know I’ve tuned by them over the past month, heard something that sounded like Sports, and moved on before even noticing it wasn’t the same network.
I’d like them to go back to music, maybe to country like in the late 1970s, when a friend had an AM radio on his bike and listened to 970.

WBGG has a sports format which carries everything except….sports. It always annoyed me that with ESPN carrying national contracts for Major League Baseball and major college football games you could never find the World Series on the local radio dial. And local schools like Robert Morris have to go online streaming only. Instead it was always two jamokes endlessly breaking down the late rounds of the NFL Draft. Will be the same with Fox I’m sure.
