Tidbits
June 30, 2021A couple of items as we close out the month of June.
- Today is Paul Martino’s last day at KDKA-TV. He’s retiring after 37 years with the station. His social media page has been abuzz with activity in the last few weeks with stories and links to interviews he’s done. And apparently we’re finding out that former City of Pittsburgh Mayor Sophie Masloff didn’t really care much for him!
- Meanwhile over at WTAE, Chris Lovingood has announced that he will be leaving the station at the end of July. The weekend morning anchor, whose presentation style is loved by many, will head to WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. He recalls the first months of his 3 year stint here being pretty intense. One of the stories he was assigned to was the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in October of 2018. At WRAL he will have a Monday-Friday shift and will start as a reporter before sitting at the anchor desk.
- PBRTV Cub Reporter, Ted, has alerted us – second or third hand – that Rose Somma-Tennent’s departure from WJAS was for the same apparent reason Wendy Bell left the station. Word on the street has it that St. Barnabas Broadcasting wanted to have the rights to the “brands” that each host had. We’re not sure if that means they wanted to control what Bell and Somma-Tennent were saying, or if the station wanted exclusive rights to their programs, or both. One thing is for sure, we’ll likely never have the answer! (Meanwhile you can save the rhetoric about the Free Speech stuff. Move on… there’s nothing to see here…)
