Stu Emry dies

We understand from Aviva Radbord that former WTAE-TV and KDKA-TV reporter Stu Emry has died at age 88. I think Aviva’s words are perfect…

“Dear Facebook Friends:

It is with the deepest sorrow, that I must tell you of the death of former KDKA-TV and WTAE-TV reporter Stuart Emry — who died, today — at the age of 88.

Stu Emry was a reporter’s reporter…a newsman’s newsman.

He had that unmistakable, broadcasting voice — and the skill that came from a wealth of news experience.

He was the epitome of professionalism, kindness, and grace.

I had briefly worked with him, in the combined WTAE Radio-TV newsroom, in 1974.

It was a “gift”, to me — as a news assignment editor — when KDKA-TV News Director Sue McInerney — who had worked with Stu, at WTAE — hired him — part-time — at KDKA-TV.

What, a blessing — to collaborate with him, in covering news — each weekend — until his retirement, from KDKA-TV.

I will post further family survivor details, when available.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the John Slater Funeral Home, 4201-Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.

Friends will be received at the funeral home — on Monday, April 18th — from 2-4PM., and 6-8PM., with services, at the John Slater Funeral Home, on Tuesday, April 19th, at noon.

Rest in peace, Stu.

Thank you, for enriching my own television news experience.”
