“Sounds of Sinatra” host Sid Mark dies
April 19, 2022Pittsburgh radio listeners may remember a few years back when WJAS (1320) was a standards/nostalgia station, it was the local affiliate for a nationally-syndicated program out of Philadelphia called “Sounds of Sinatra”. We learned today that the creator and host of the long-time program, Sid Mark, passed away seemingly unexpectedly on Monday. He was 88 and no cause of death has been announced.
The program started 62 years ago in Philadelphia and began to pick up affiliates all across the country in 1979. Despite it being a news/talk station now, the program still originates at WPHT (1210 Philadelphia). The program’s website says the program is still on the air in several markets on stations which can be heard online as well as at Audacy.com
I’ve listened to that, it’s been a year or two, but SOS was on a weekend morning, and he had a female co-host, that’s how I remember it. It stuck out because WJAS has so little music.
If SOS stops, St. Barnabas might want to check into Joe Piscopo’s Sunday With Sinatra show. Its flagship station is WABC from NYC, but you can also hear it on line, so it might be syndicated, and WJAS already runs another WABC show, Cat’s Roundtable, so they already have some connection there.
Up the dial, KQV has more public affairs programming on it sometimes, hearing Eric and someone talking about the famous UFO sighting in Kecksburg, which could have been a program from Tube City Radio. Groovy QV also has newer, and more crossover EZ music on it now too.
