Remembering Tom Bordenkircher

A few days ago, John Poister checked in on social media with the report that Tom Bordenkircher passed away. Better known as Tom Borden, Poister mentioned that his career as a TV director began way back in the early 1950s with WENS-TV (16) where he was the director of the first live Pirate baseball broadcast in August 1953. He later moved on to WTAE (4) where he made perhaps his largest contribution to Pittsburgh television (more on that in a moment). He also worked at WPXI (11) for a short time.

Borden was married to Ricki Wertz who hosted the shows he had developed and directed – including “Ricki and Copper” and “Junior High Quiz” at WTAE.

Borden and Wertz were married for 65 years.
