Rasmussen makes news
August 21, 2024On Tuesday afternoon, KDKA morning news anchor Paul Rasmussen posted a message to his Facebook page.
Many have reached out, asking why I’ve been absent on the morning show. Don’t want to alarm anyone, I’m OK and getting good care. Doctors say I had at least a couple of silent heart attacks Monday morning. Had follow up tests today and will see a specialist tomorrow. Thanks to each of you for caring!
A further report from KDKA said Rasmussen wasn’t feeling well during his shift and actually left work to visit the ER. They also quoted Mayo Clinic who says while like a regular heart attack it involved a blockage of blood flow to the heart and possible damage to the muscle, there may not be any symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath.
Rasmussen plans to be back on the air as soon as possible.
Hope he gets thoroughly checked out – silent heart attacks are nothing to dismiss. My dad died far too early at 74. Three months before he passed, a doctor us that 5 years earlier Dad would have been an ideal candidate for a heart transplant, but numerous “silent” heart attacks had ravaged his heart and circulatory system. The doctor concluded he wouldn’t survive transplant surgery. I was in his hospital room when he went into cardiac arrest while the attendant was changing his underwear. The doctors responding to his “Code Blue” could only stand by helplessly, as he had signed a “do not resuscitate” order. I sincerely wish you a better outcome, Paul. Take care!
