Pittsburgh native to leave Chicago TV

Pittsburgh native Vince Gerasole is leaving WBBM-TV in Chicago after many years rounding out a 33-year career as a broadcast journalist. Gerasole had reported in Pittsburgh at WTAE-TV (4) and later WPXI-TV (11) where he would become the Washington Correspondent.

Mr. Gerasole announced the move on his Facebook page late Wednesday night. “A meaningful and unexpected opportunity has come my way to work with The Archdiocese of Chicago and, among other things, help people fill the spiritual void they may be experiencing during the COVID-19 crisis.” He will leave TV in a few weeks.

His favorite moments involved covering the features and food at WBBM saying, “At the end of the day those were the stories and people viewers remembered most. Their life journeys often inspired others to take chances, pursue their passions, and find join in life. Each one brought countless joy to my own.”

Gerasole said he is proud of his brave colleagues who continue in the business as their work is more seriously criticized than it used to be, but still very important.
