Pintek takes leave of absence
July 25, 2018Mike Pintek has announced a leave of absence from KDKA radio to focus on his health.
“At this point, I need to take some time and really focus on my health,” said Pintek. “I know a number of listeners have reached out to the station to get an update on my condition since I haven’t been on the air for a few weeks. I want everyone to know how much I appreciate all your prayers, kind words, encouragement and support.”
Pintek was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in May 2017 and recently his treatments were interrupted when he suffered a stroke. His doctors are optimistic for a full recovery from the stroke and that he can continue cancer treatments.
Mike holds the noon – 3:00 p.m. slot on KDKA (1020) which has been covered mainly by Ellis Cannon of late.
Mike, if you read this we’re all thinking about you back here in Harrisburg. I hope someone on the KDKA staff will pass this along to you.
Thank you, Eric for the update, I was wondering why Mike Pintek was not on the air and I was getting worried. I pray that the stroke was light and that he recovers soon (both stroke and cancer) so he can get back to fighting that cancer. He is my favorite KDKA-AM host and I like to listen to him on the drive into work. If I may, from what I know, they made a good amount of progress in pancreatic cancer withing the last decade or so and my uncle’s brother had it too until he went with a new treatment protocol from John Hopkins where he is cancer free and under remission at this time and I hope it stays that way.
Mike,
The Harrisburg gang is thinking of you, and sending well wishes. Hope KDKA passes this along.
