Newsman Bob James dies
April 30, 2022When NBC bought WJAS-AM/FM (1320/99.7) in 1957, they hired Bob James into the expanded news department of what became WAMP and WFMP. John Poister also recalled James’ role as a “man on the scene” reporter driving the WAMP Wagon (a 1957 DeSoto with a wire recorder attached to a storage battery). Poister reports Mr. James passed away a few days ago at age 98 in San Francisco where he had moved to be closer to family.

Mr. James eventually moved on to WFBG in Altoona before returning to Pittsburgh and Channel 11 (then-WIIC). His most recent work was at KQV (1410) where he is remembered for his professional and award-winning coverage whether serious or light-hearted. He retired from the all-news KQV 20 years ago.
