New Restaurant to house radio studio
February 29, 2024A new restaurant is headed to Pittsburgh’s North Shore bearing the name of country singer Jason Aldean. The restaurant is expected to open in March at the site where Jerome Bettis Grill 36 was located before pandemic restrictions shut it down.
Operated by TC Restaurant Group, the new venture will also have an iHeartRadio studio which will be used primarily by WPGB (104.7), iHeart’s Country-formatted “BIG” but it will also be used by the sister stations in the cluster. iHeart and TC Restaurants have a similar agreement at the location in Nashville, Tennessee.
The goal of the restaurant is to be the local destination for fans of country to connect with artists and fellow fans and top performing artists. Fans will also be able to connect when they can’t make it in person via live showcase broadcasts.
I recall a pizza place along Banksville Road which converted a good bit of its seating space to a studio for Mad Mike Metrovich to host live shows during classic car events. He died soon afterwards and the owners got stuck with a dust-gathering radio studio taking up a big chunk of their business. Hope it works out better for these guys.
I believe that was the world-famous Beto’s (known for cold cheese on hot dough or something like that…) and the original WZUM (1590) setting a studio up for “Mad Mike” Metrovich. It was short-lived (no pun intended) as I believe it wasn’t long before his death.
No, it wasn’t Beto’s. That’s further up the road near the intersection with Crane Avenue. This place was up closer to the Banksville Shopping Plaza. Beto’s is still in business. This place is gone and the building now houses some restaurant serving some Latin American cuisine. It was for the original WZUM though.
That restaurant was Pietros Pizza owned by Mike Metrovich’s son in law and Mikes daughter
It’s a shame they’re gone. That place served up some good pie. This is an interesting discussion topic, radio studios in unusual places.
