Marcinkiewicz retires to run for office
February 17, 2021Monday evening, WPXI-TV (11) reporter Amy Marcinkiewicz announced on Facebook that she was retiring from the station after 25 years but left no reason as to why. The post has since been taken down, but the Beaver County Times’ Scott Tady caught up with Marcinkiewicz to find she is running for public office – specifically the office of District Judge 50-3-06 in Evans City, Butler County.
She told Tady that her career in journalism has helped prepare her for this role, “The role of a magisterial district judge are things I already do as a journalist. I research, learn the law, interact with people, listen and get to the true story in any situation always remaining completely unbiased.”
I’ve been a lawyer and a news reporter. Reporting does not prepare one for being a judge.
One of the least impressive judges I have ever seen in a courtroom had at one time been a TV news reporter. I think the needed skillsets are not well-aligned frankly.
