Local announcer makes her way back to the airwaves
February 27, 2023Fans of Kristen Buccigrossi will be happy to know she has made it back to the local airwaves. The former WDSY (107.9) morning co-host was unceremoniously released from her position last summer when Audacy made some “strategic cuts” at clusters all over the country.
Now she’s working for the Frischling family at Steel City Media on WLTJ (92.9) in the North Hills. In her most recent blog post, Kristen says, “It’s been a long six months. As you may have read in previous posts or seen on my social media, it was a struggle to say the least. It’s hard when your hands are tied to just sit and wait for the moment when you can get back up again, but I knew I had God on my side for this battle. As soon as my radio non-compete was up, I put on my running shoes and hit the ground like I was running the half marathon in Pittsburgh by myself all over again.”
During her six month break, Kristen looked for other lines of work, but kept following her heart with her love of dogs… well, and music. She was also driven by the care and concern of many listeners who were eager for her return.
Kristen will cover weekends and fill-ins on Q92.9 for the time being.
These non-compete clauses that many businesses concoct for employees should be illegal. I can see why it might be valid for management that knows all the proprietary stuff, but radio talent? Especially if the station cut her job? Not the employee leaving on her own!
