You’ve heard him call the play-by-play for 46 years, but now Mike Lange is leaving the broadcast booth for good. He will not return with the start of the Pittsburgh Penguins upcoming season.

Lange explained, “As many of your know, I have been cutting back on the game broadcasts the last few seasons. This year was difficult with the pandemic, but I was still able to broadcast a limited few, which was important to me.” But the 2020 season was Lange’s 50th season behind the microphone of professional hockey and his 46th with the Pens.

Lange has nothing but kind words for Josh Getzoff and “the ole ’29-er, Phil Bourque who’ll resume the mic duties they’ve held for a few years.

You’ll still hear the distinctive voice of the 73-year-old Mike Lange as he will over commentary and voiceover work over the team’s radio network.
