KDKA launches CBSN Pittsburgh

At Noon today, KDKA-TV joined some of its sisters across the country by launching a CBSN outlet. It’s a stream that will have content available on just about every outlet from Roku to your smart phone.

VP and GM of CBS Local Digital Media, Adam Weiner says this isn’t for “appointment viewing.” “This is for what you want to watch when you want to watch,” he said.

KDKA is the 8th of the Viacom/CBS owned to launch such a program. Locally, five full-time staffers were hired for the launch – they come from traditional television, radio, and as news director Kathy Hostetter said, “digital natives.”

There’s no word on what the exact programming will be at this time, but it is expected that programs like “Nightly Sports Call” will be featured. It also sounds like there will be less program interruption on TV
