Kaplan leaving WTAE and Pittsburgh

WTAE reporter David Kaplan will be leaving the station next week. Kaplan arrived in town in 2015. While he is grateful for his time here, he was affected by tragedies. The shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018 affected him deeply because of his Jewish roots. Additionally, only three days after starting at WTAE, the country heard about his best friend and former co-worker in his hometown who was killed while on the air doing a live report.

From this Kaplan says he’s learned resiliency and with the help of his co-workers and bosses, he was able to make it through as a better journalist and reporter. He says, “Pittsburgh, I love you and forever will. This town is more than steel, grit, Super Bowls, and rivers, it’s a place of love, heart, re-invention, resilience and a reminder that you NEVER give up, you grow.

Kaplan hasn’t mentioned what’s next, but it seems he will continue in television.
