UPDATED on PBRTV – 01/15/21 8:55 a.m.

WTAE reported Thursday that Joanne Rogers, Fred Rogers’ widow, had died at the age of 92. Mrs. Rogers had been hospitalized for several days and up until that time she carried on her well-beloved husband’s loving legacy since his death in 2003. The couple had been married 50 years and had met at Rollins College in Florida where they had gone to school. Mrs. Rogers was an accomplished concert pianist.

Tom Hanks was selected to portray Mr. Rogers in “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” which was released in 2019. During his time in Pittsburgh, he and Mrs. Rogers developed a bond. Both Mrs. Rogers and David Newell, who played Mr. McFeely on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, had cameo appearances in the film.

Eric sez: As we continue to live through a tumultuous time through an ongoing pandemic and having come through a contentious election battle, please take a moment to put it all aside; pause and think of ways to be kind rather than getting sucked up in the rhetoric. Remember both Fred and Joanne and how they would live, and recommend YOU live, during this time. Remember kindness.
