Jack Bogut: 50 years in Pittsburgh

April 16, 2018 Off By Eric O'Brien

Larry Richert and John Shumway, current hosts of KDKA Radio’s morning show, took time to visit with Jack Bogut who started his 15-year morning run at the station 50 years ago on April 16. The number one song that day was Bobby Goldsboro’s “Honey”. “The song was so sweet that diabetics were told not to listen to it,” Bogut said. While KDKA was considered a music station in 1968, it wasn’t necessarily the main focus. “If there was news or something that needed to be said, we didn’t play the music.”

Bogut moved on to WTAE-AM (1250) and TV (4) in 1983. In 1988, he went to WSHH-FM (99.7) as it began to transition out of beautiful music. In 1997, he moved to Renda sister station WJAS (1320) where he spent 17 years.
