History tidbit
November 30, 2019Thomas Picker posted the following photo and description to a local Facebook group last night…
KQV. Photo shows PRE-ABC Art Deco Call Letters on the side of the building. This photo was shot in 1957 or 58, shortly before or right about the time ABC acquired the station, and obviously before they changed to the familiar sharp tailed Q with the radio 14 … From my personal collection. I hope you enjoy! Peace!
Eric, This would probably be spring 1959 at the earliest. They didn’t move from the 14th floor until October, 1958. They kept this logo on the building until 1964.
When I was 11 or 12, I started hanging out weekends and evenings downtown starting about 1962. Lasting until the late ’60s. One of the stops was always that corner, watching the DJs and newscasters. I recall Larry Aiken, Chuck Brinkman specifically. Also, much later, a Sunday night talk show hosted by Lynn Hinds (sp?). What I don’t recall is the gold. Was it ever changed to a blueish color?
