FTV further stirs the Cox pot
January 9, 2019It was late-November that FTV posted an article saying it would be mid-December when Cox Media Group would announce to whom they intended to sell their stations. The rumor mill created then said Hearst would be the most likely candidate.
It occurred to me the other day that I hadn’t heard any announcement. But FTV now says, “Cox is expected to announce any day as to who is buying their stations …”
It appears that NBC might be interested. That would make WPXI an NBC O&O which would be perfect since the station (as WIIC and WPXI) has been the local NBC outlet since sign on in 1957.
The fact is, there are several potential buyers for Cox Media Group and we will just have to wait and see.
If WPXI becomes an NBC O&O that opens the question of what would happen to WTOV. In other markets where there was a secondary NBC station adjoining a market where NBC had an O&O they opted to pull their affiliation.
WJAC would also be affected as well.
