Former WCNS Executive dies

Former WCNS General Manager Brandon Kail, whose family purchased the Latrobe station from John Longo in 2014, has died after a two and a half year battle with cancer.  Kail’s wife Carrie posted news of his passing on his Facebook page this morning.

Kail, 38, was diagnosed with a Stage 4 brain tumor in January 2019.  His father Jim, owns LHTC Broadband, a cable, phone and internet service provider based in Stahlstown, Westmoreland County.  LHTC Media was formed as the radio arm of LHTC Broadband, and had expanded its reach of radio properties from Latrobe to Fairmont, West Virginia.  Kail played a key role in the development of LHTC’s radio footprint until his health problems began.

WCNS and Apollo-licensed sister station WXJX (formerly WAVL) and its FM translators were sold to Steve Clendenin’s Maryland Media One this past February.

Kail was a native of Bethel Park and was a schoolteacher prior to his foray into radio, graduating from California University of Pennsylvania and Geneva College.

Besides his wife of 17 years and his parents, Kail is survived by his seven sons and three daughters.
