Follow-up: Committee reviews FCC procedure on Audacy situation
September 27, 2024The “ink” had barely dried before I heard from a source who said the last post was nothing more than a story about “the right wing using this as fear mongering ahead of the election.”
To be honest, as I was writing the story, I was actually asking myself if this was legit as the majority of the outlets carrying the story tended to lean conservative.
As I mentioned previously, 94-year-old George Soros does lean “left” on the political spectrum which doesn’t sit well with conservatives who are concerned that Soros’ financing of “organizations advocating for speech restrictions and censorship of conservatives online” will do the same once he becomes the major shareholder of Audacy should the FCC approve the transfer.
What I also mentioned previously is the FCC had approved the transfer. According to my source, as well as this Radio Ink article, such a vote (apparently, behind closed doors; along party lines with the result being 3-2, Democrat over Republican) has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee is investigating the FCC to see if the claim the commission has the deal on the fast track is, in fact, true.
Meanwhile, I’ll just go back to waiting for several sources on both sides of the great political divide report the actual story…. sigh…
For whatever it’s worth Audacy-owned WPHT in Philly canceled conservative talker Mark Levin within hours of the ink being dry on this deal.
Interesting…
I won’t jump to conclusions as I have no evidence of a cause-and effect relationship here. It could be for several reasons. The desire to do something local, to try out a fresh syndicated show, to sell that time on a brokered basis, a potential format change, etc. Though I can’t totally rule out Soros making a call from his bunker lair below Davos and ordering them to get Levin off of there either. All I know is Levin told his listeners about it.
Seems like WPHT is replacing Levin with Jimmy Faiella. Sounds like another flavor of the same stuff. https://barrettmedia.com/2024/10/01/mark-levin-george-soros-investment-in-audacy-an-attack-on-free-speech-behind-exit-from-1210-wpht/
Eric-WPHT has never been a great station failing in every format ever done on 1210.
Having said that and being a former broadcaster myself I am concerned about Soros having control of Audacy. He is no good. Sorry i don’t trust him. He wants to censor conservatives as does this administration. I would be just as upset if conservatives were trying to censor the left-but you’ll notice we don’t although I think some of the comments from the left in the media are irresponsible. Example MSNBC commentators calling for Trump’s demise. There is a definite bias in the media against Trump and Trump supporters and it can cause bad things to happen. This has to stop.Bush and President Obama are to blame as the NDNA(National Defense Authorization Act)was changed to limit free speech. Take Care
