Farewell WCBS-AM 880

August 25, 2024 Off By Eric O'Brien

As a long-time radio observer, PBRTV.com wishes nothing but the best for those who were affected by New York City station WCBS-AM’s sign-off tonight. Beginning Monday, it will be leased by Audacy to Good Karma Brands to air ESPN radio in The Big Apple.

Cash-strapped Audacy blew up the 56-year format after the final newscast at 9:00 p.m. Friday, but has remained on the air with retrospectives until Midnight Sunday. Come Monday morning the sports format begins with a new set of call letters.

Audacy also owns all-news 1010 WINS which will continue with the format. No word if any of those let go from WCBS will be offered positions at WINS. Additionally, the company owns the existing all-sports outlet in NYC – WFAN from which “The Fan” format used on their sports stations across the country – including Pittsburgh – originates.
