Entercom becomes Audacy
March 30, 2021In the spirit of iHeartMedia, the country’s second largest radio owner announced today that they are changing their name. Entercom, in business since 1968, today will become Audacy. Chairman, President, and CEO David Field said, “We have transformed into a fundamentally different and dramatically enhanced organization and so it is time to embrace a new name and brand identity which better reflects who we have become and our vision for the future.
The accomplishments which led to this decision include the acquisition of CBS Radio, the launch of radio.com, the primary companion podcast to leading brands, and so much more in many forms of media and entertainment.
The stock ticker symbol will change from ETM to AUD by mid-April, but today the Entercom name and “radio.com” will fall under “Audacy”. Other familiar brand names under the company’s purview, like Cadence13 and Pineapple Street Studios will remain.
Locally Audacy owns KDKA-AM (1020 and 100.1 W261AX); KDKA-FM (93.7); WBZZ (100.7 New Kensington), and WDSY-FM (107.9).
Audacy. I presume that’s pronounced “odyssey”. Not “ode-acey” or “aw-dassy” or “oh-dah-see” or “aay-ud-a-see” or….
As in “I wonder what happened to The Oneders?”
Corporate stupidity at it’s finest. Leave it to a radio outfit to pick a name that people are going to have a difficult time pronouncing.
