Engineer known for his work at WWSW dies
March 18, 2019Frank Lachimia served as a radio operator in the Navy during WWII, but locally he had worked for WWSW for 45 years. Mr. Lachimia died over the weekend at age 92. He is remembered for being instrumental in the construction of WWSW-AM’s (970; now WBGG) 8-tower site in Ross Township in 1947. He was also there during the first broadcasts for WWSW-FM.
I had the privilege of working with Frank at WWSW AM 970 when I was an engineer there in the late 1970s until Sept. 1980. Frank was extremely knowledgeable about transmitters and AM directional arrays and would gladly share his knowledge with you. He was also a fellow Amateur (ham) radio operator. I will miss him and cherish his memory
