Ed Blank, local paper reporter and columnist

PBRTV has received word of the death of Ed Blank at age 81. An Army veteran, Blank was an alumnus of the Sacred Heart Elementary School, what was then called “South Hills Catholic” (today Seton-LaSalle) High School, and Duquesne University. His 2 year stint as an officer in the Army Signal Corps included a year in Vietnam.

Mr. Blank was also a 25-year veteran for The Pittsburgh Press where worked as a city reporter and the TV-radio editor. But he also achieved his dream position as drama editor covering shows on Broadway and local theater. He would continue that role at The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review after The Press became the victim of the 1992 labor strike.

He was an active member of many organizations including several related to veteran affairs, his church, and media clubs.
