Dayton out at KDKA Radio
April 24, 2024We are hearing about cuts throughout Audacy who owns 225 stations in 46 markets including Pittsburgh. Here it is the parent company of KDKA-AM/FM, WBZZ and WDSY. The cuts seem to have affected the local office. Rick Dayton has shifted his social media employment status as “Former afternoon drive host at 100.1 FM & AM 1020 KDKA.”
Audacy is in the middle of Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. No word on whether any other Pittsburgh employees have been affected.
More as we hear it…
Seems a hole is developing in the on-air ranks at KDKA-1020. The 10 a.m.-2 p.m. shift already seemed to be a musical chairfest. Now the drive at 5 seems to be in a car that has no driver.
Moving Marty Griffin into his own timeslot was a good idea, but they eliminated the wrong person in the afternoons. Colin Dunlap should have been out and Rick Dayton kept. That would have made sense. In addition, they need to bring back Robert Mangino in the evening slot. That together would make this a phenomenal radio station. The change in the first half of the day makes sense, the changes in the second half of the day are idiotic.
