Crawley sues CBS

It was 2017 when KDKA-TV reporter Dave Crawley was injured in an on-air stunt. The accident was part of a promotion for the Three Rivers Regatta who had the Red Bull Flugtag stunt on the Allegheny River. Mr. Crawley tried the stunt during a live shot on the air.

Crawley was reluctant to do the stunt but felt he should after feeling he had been passed over for other opportunities for age and health reasons. Now 72, Mr. Crawley lost his spleen and suffered brain damage as a result of the stunt.

The new lawsuit, filed Monday, mirrors a case filed in state court over his injuries. The suit says Crawley was forced to file a worker’s comp claim and CBS refuses to pay medical bills. Additionally it claims the company didn’t renew his contract, removed his company email without warning, and took him away from the public eye.

Meanwhile the suit also says a younger weather man from a sister station in Florida who was similarly injured a few years prior, was later promoted after his recovery. The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
