Cox selling WTOV-TV and WJAC-TV
July 23, 2012Cox Media Group is selling several radio and TV stations after purchasing four television stations – two in Jacksonville, Florida and two in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Locally, Cox has owned WPXI-TV (11) for several decades and while there are no plans to sell it, regional sister stations WTOV-TV (9) Steubenville, Ohio and WJAC-TV (6) Johnstown, Pennsylvania are on the market. Cox acquired the two stations in 2000 cornering the market on area NBC affiliates. Twenty-seven radio stations and three other television stations are a part of the sale. Cox plans to focus on larger and fewer markets.
WOW, WJAC for sale. It’s now a clone of WPXI.
I hope someone buys the station for its broadcasting excellence and history as the coastal link from New York and Philly to Pittsburgh and west.
If some concern buys it for internet access or whatever, it will a shame
