Stephen Chatman, along with Don Patterson, co-founded and co-hosted “The Soul Show” on WYEP (91.3) in 1995. He hosted the program for close to 15 years before handing the microphone over to it’s current host, Michael Canton.

Mr. Chatman died this past Monday in a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona where he has lived for the majority of the last decade. He had tested positive for coronavirus a week before his death.

Patterson told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “I told him we have the 25th anniversary of our radio show coming up. I told him we got a lot of work to do. But he had double pneumonia and he was on a respirator. They had recently induced him into a medical coma. I knew he was tired.”

Mr. Chatman, worked hard helping young people in the community in and around Pittsburgh. In Arizona, he worked in the Maricopa County Juvenile Probation office after having worked in Erie as Coordinator of that city’s Weed and Seed crime prevention program.

WYEP will air a tribute to Chatman on Saturday (4/4) from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Don Patterson and George Tarrant Jr. will join Michael Canton in the studio.
