Clarification: WLTJ’s Christmas music

September 18, 2024 Off By Eric O'Brien

Upon reading the news from another source on Sunday that Q92.9’s HD-4 channel was all-Christmas, I posted the news as it’s really not too unusual anymore. There are some main signal stations out there who have made the switch this early in the past. You may recall during the height of the pandemic, WWIZ (103.9 West Middlesex) made the jump two years in a row in order to boost people’s spirits.

That said, I’m “new” to HD Radio. The PBRTV Mobile (which looks like a normal car so don’t look for my logo on it) was replaced over the summer as I leased a new car – the first “post-CD player” car I’ve had. Android Auto Bluetooth, Satellite and HD Radio are now the “big deal” in cars. “Ah, good,” I thought, “now I can see what I’ve been missing.”

Yeah…

In all fairness, I haven’t really missed much as a lot of the programming is canned. But I know Steel City Media has made some effort over the years to be generous in offering HD space to those who, in some cases, might be considered competitors. (Side note: I seem to recall them offering an HD channel to my former employer to host WKVE – 103.1 Mt. Pleasant – on one of their HD channels... but I could be making that up out of a nightmare too!) I digress.

WLTJ HD4’s programming of late has been a re-transmission of University of Pittsburgh’s WPTS (92.1) which, despite its height on the Cathedral of Learning, has a weakened signal due to 92.1 in New Castle. This HD4 retransmit at least gets it to a few more radios each day.. well, except for Sundays from what we understand. It seems no matter what Sunday of the year it is – even Easter – WLTJ HD4 has your favorite music to go along with your red and green socks!
