After 20 years at KDKA-TV and 40 years in the business, reporter Bob Allen retired Friday. Allen, a Pittsburgh native started out in radio and spent about 20 years going across the country before returning home and to KDKA. At the end of the 3-hour evening newscast Friday, Allen called it the “fulfillment of a dream”.

Anchor Susan Koeppen acknowledged that this was not how they wanted it to end for Allen who was on camera from one of the overlooks on Mount Washington. Because of the social distancing the COVID-19 pandemic has caused, even those in studio have been standing far apart while more reporters have been on location – even if not reporting from a news scene. Koeppen assured Allen that his colleagues in the studio were offering “air-high 5s” and wished he could be there with them for a proper send off.
