AT&T Sportsnet Pittsburgh sold
August 28, 2023Earlier this year, it was announced that AT&T Sportsnet Pittsburgh owner Warner Bros. Discovery wanted out of regional sports end of the business. This caused a lot of concern as much of the area’s pro-sport events are broadcast on this channel.
Enter Pittsburgh Penguins owner Fenway Sports Group who has purchased the channel. Terms of the deal have not been released. Fenway is based, of course, in Boston, Massachusetts and owns the Boston Red Sox and RFK Racing among other sports teams. They also own the majority of New England Sports Network.
So, the Penguins are guaranteed a place for their games to air, but what about the Pittsburgh Pirates? There is a suggetion thata the team will work with the new network to remain in place, or they could go to the MLB who would manage the TV rights, production, and distribution. That decision may not come until mid-winter.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a return of the KBL name but it’s been so long (1996 I think?) I don’t see that happening. Great move for FSG. Maybe Paramount picks up some Buccos games for KDKA+.
Responsible broadcasters do not live in the past and they don’t pander to retro freaks.
On a related note, Fenway Sports Group does not own RFK Racing (which is a joint venture) but does own Liverpool Football Club.
