Antill retires
October 1, 2021PBRTV has heard that the end of September meant it was retirement time for Ron Antill. Antill has 45 years in the business with the last 25 at Renda Broadcasting where he served as program director for WSHH (99.7) where he had also done airshifts. He served in a similar role when Renda owned WJAS (1320) and WPTT/WMNY (1360).
In addition to RBC, Ron spent some time working in the country format both in Pittsburgh and out of the market.
PBRTV salutes Ron Antill for a job well done! Don’t be a stranger!
Congrats to Ron! He forgot more about the business than I ever knew. He was great to work with. Enjoy, Ron!
I met Ron when he was doing afternoon drive at WDSY in the summer of 1987. I was a 14-year-old kid who traveled to Pittsburgh with my dad who was scheduled to take a civil service test at the State Office Building. Having a few hours to kill, naive me decided to be adventurous in the big city (I lived near Derry, PA) and visit my favorite radio station. I went to the Fulton Building, went up to the whatever floor and walked into the lobby. I told the receptionist I was interested in radio. She introduced me to Ron and some of the other staff who were there that day. I got to sit in the studio and “hang-out” for about an hour. Everyone was super nice, and Ron gave me a few pointers about being a “jock.” I left that day with a couple T-shirts, a boatload of promotional cassettes, and some awesome memories. Years later in 1995, I did my internship at Y108. Then from 1996 to 1998, I was hired as the overnight board-op and weekend/fill-in airstaff at Y108. While I’m no longer working in broadcasting, it was that fateful meeting that cemented my interest. I’m sure he doesn’t remember me or that day, but without that brief meeting and Ron’s kindness who knows how my radio career might have turned-out. Thanks for your kindness, Ron…and enjoy your retirement!!!
