11 days…
November 7, 2022If you’re keeping score at home as to the beginning of the seasonal tunes, WSHH (99.7) has billboard advertisements this morning saying it will start in 11 days – putting us at November 18… right on time. The station’s Monday morning email says another “Christmas Preview Weekend” starts this Friday (11/11) at 5:00 p.m.
More later…
I’m curious about something. Has any station’s management announced that they’ll be playing different Christmas and non-Christmas seasonal songs than everyone has been playing for the past few decades? Surely there are some good new Christmas songs that aren’t “Dominick the Christmas Donkey” or “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.” Better yet, are any stations retiring the non-Christmas “winter” songs like “Frosty the Snowman” or “Baby It’s Cold Outside”?

Inside Radio has listed the “best testing” songs of the season, and whether it’s “Wish” or “3WS” the playlists won’t differ much. There is a benefit to being the station that’s done the switch for years, and yet there are times when the first one in wins. Now that it looks like WSHH has shown its cards, maybe 3WS will make the flip before the 11th. Christmas music -the beloved traditional songs played over the years – becomes the favorite of the workforce, much like the beautiful music on WSHH back in the 70s and 80s. 3WS has pulled double-digit numbers in its Holiday mode-so there’s little reason to change the playbook. Luckily you can find scores of streaming sites willing to widen the Holiday Highway I’m sure.
